“He’ll Hear it Again” by Edward Lee

There’s a man

the silent world claims as Noah,

standing at the cliff’s edge,

looking down on us

as we crawl across each other,

his measurements already taken,

the wood already cut;

he’s waiting for the word

he knows is coming,

feels it in the tightening of the misty air,

the word he heard before

when we were so less civilised

than we now are.

Edward Lee’s poetry, short stories, non-fiction and photography have been published in magazines in Ireland, England and America, including The Stinging Fly, Skylight 47, Acumen and Smiths Knoll.  His debut poetry collection “Playing Poohsticks On Ha’Penny Bridge” was published in 2010.
