“Stewed and Strained” by RK Taylor

comforting chatter from front-facing seat
soothing justified cries in empathetic debate
smoothing frosting onto clumping, cracked cake
overflowing trashcan. No—it can wait

Chemicals carve; his burning brain.
supplanting endurance for meandering days.
until nihilism is reified,
           then stewed
                                       and strained

RK Taylor is an emerging writer from upstate New York. He is working to earn his MFA at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, and teaches in the Allegheny County Jail through the Words Without Walls program. He has an intimate and spiritual relationship with his whiteboard.
