“Edges” By Kim Malinowski

There used to be an edge

where the world ended,

where ships would tumult

down cataracts into nothingness.

There are places still,

buffers and hallows

where the edges become light,

precipices that I have dangled

over and climbed,

screaming soundless

into the wind an incantation.

Prayer is an edge,

a contract that is non-binding on one side,

loose on the other.

Prayer is most needed on the edges,

sideways and gaunt.

I hang over the edge of the world whispering,

trusting that I won’t fall.
